Family is at the center of everything that Mark Collins, MD, does. "My wife and I have six children, three biological and three adopted," Dr. Collins shared. "Our house is busy, to say the least! I know how much my family means to me, and that's just one of the reasons I work so hard to care for my patient families. I love seeing my great-grandparent patients and knowing I also care for their great-grandchildren."
Dr. Collins says a relationship with one of his doctors is what helped lead him to medicine. "I had a great doctor-patient relationship with my pediatrician growing up and wanted to have a career like his," he explained. "I initially went to medical school for pediatrics but found myself enjoying the interaction and disease management with adults. Family medicine affords me the opportunity to care for all ages, chronic disease states and have a focus on wellness.
"Prevention is my first love," he continued. "I focus on keeping my patients well."
When he is not working, Dr. Collins loves spending time with his wife and kids. "I love spending time around the dinner table hearing what is going on in their worlds," he said. "I also love running, riding mountain bikes and playing sports with the kids."
